As we get ready to start reading "Anne Frank: Diary of a Young Girl", I would like to get your reaction to the background information we have looked at. What are your thoughts, insights, feelings, etc. in regards to the Holocaust and WWII? What did you know before we began, and what have you learned so far? As we read the book, what do you expect to be able to learn from the young Ms. Frank's memoir? Take a few moments to write down everything you have on your mind in regards to the prompt. I look forward to seeing what you have to say.

Well, you made it through the first two weeks of school, and I would like to check in to see how you are doing. Today's blog doesn't have much to do with your reading, but it does have to do with you. How is school going so far? Is there anything that you are struggling with? Maybe you have found something that is going far better than what you had anticipated. In other words, I just want to see how everything is going for you so far.
Remember, after you complete your post, you may respectfully comment on the posts of your peers if time allows. I look forward to seeing what all of you have to say. Good morning!!
As we work our way through the unit on poetry, we have listened to a few songs to find the figurative language and poetic devices. While it is not always fun to pick apart and analyze a song, its a fun way to learn the the material. Last week I shared a song with you that not only lent itself well to imagery and symbolism, but as you learned, this song also holds a deep and personal meaning to me. For your assignment on Friday, I asked you to choose a song which evoked specific feelings and/or emotions for you. On today's blog, I would like to know what song holds a special meaning to you. Even if it is not the song that you chose for your assignment, I would like to know. Aside from the name of the song and the artist, please tell me what the song means to you. In your blog, you may also include whatever images the song brings to mind, either real or imaginary. I feel that music can play a very significant role in our lives, so I'm very excited to see what you all have to share. Now that you have read "Anne Frank; The Diary of a Young Girl," and watched the film, I want to know your honest reactions. What did you learn over the course of this unit? I'm not just talking about new vocabulary words or how to answer the discussion questions that were occasionally presented, but more of what you learned about humanity, history, and people in general. What were some of the lessons that stood out the most to you? What did you find yourself relating to? At any point, did you find yourself at all emotional about the events that took place over the course of the period of time in which she wrote? What was the most valuable lesson of all? These are just some ideas to get you thinking about. All I am looking for is your honest reaction to everything that we experienced over the course of the unit. Feel free to respectfully comment on others' posts as well.
Good morning! Because of everything we have been trying to accomplish this year, it seems as though we have strayed away from blogging and utilizing our classroom website. So, in an effort to ease us back into what I hope will become part of our routine, I have a simple prompt for you today.
With a new year comes new goals, at least for most. Even though you may not consider yourself someone who makes New Year's resolutions, I do want to know what your goals are 2016 (at least until the end of the school year). In your response today, I want to see a well developed paragraph (or two) in which you tell me about your goals. Please, DO NOT just answer the questions that follow. Also, you MAY NOT state that you have no goals for yourself. Here are the questions to conider:
This brings me to one of my favorite quotes, as said by one of my favorite people, "Failing to plan is planning to fail." So, happy writing! I look forward to seeing all of your responses. "Education makes one easy to lead, but difficult to drive; easy to govern, but impossible to enslave." (from Anne Frank; The Diary of a Young Girl)
Taking into consideration what we have read so far, explain what you think this quote means. Also consider the follwoing: Why do Anne and her family not celebrate the fact that they are not under any mandate to learn or educate themselves? Well, here we are, finishing up the last week of our first quarter of the school year. How is it going so far? Was it easier to adjust this year than it was last year. For today's blog response, I just want to have a bit of an open conversation. Tell me how you feel the first quarter has gone for you. Be sure to be thorough and not just give me the, "it's fine," kind of response. I want to know, truthfully, how you feel. Some things that you may, but are NOT required to include are:
What has been really difficult? What has been super easy? How have you matured? What are some lessons that you learned last year that you made sure to use this year? What classes are you struggling with and why? Who is your favorite teacher and why? (*WINK, WINK) Be creative in your writing, and like I said, just be honest. I look forward to reading all of your responses. Last week, you had the opportunity to take a practice MAP test. For today's blog, I would like to know your general thoughts about it. Was it hard, easy, or just "meh"? What did you find easy? What did you struggle or worry about? What are some of the key things you would like to make sure we review before the day comes when we take the real test? I know we had somewhat of an informal discussion on this topic, but I would like to see it in writing so that we can use it as kind of a checklist. Please be sure to be honest and thorough in your responses.
Lately, there has been an influx on the number of excuses that are being presented when a project or assignment has not been completed on time. By now, all of you probably know how I feel about this. Pick one of the new quotes that I have placed around the room, those that are centered around excuses, and respond to it. I want to know your true opinion here, but I also want to know why you feel the way you do. I am very interested to see what you have to say.
Ready? Go! I you all are missing me terribly right about now, but rest assured, I will be back tomorrow. In the meantime, I want to know about what you are reading right now for you choice reading book. If you just finished a book, you may discuss that one as well. What I would like to know is the following:
What are you reading? What lead you to choose that book? What are you reactions to the book? How do you identify with at least on main character from the book? Please make sure to use transitions as you are including the responses to these questions in your blog entry; I do not want to just see a list of answers. This should be a well constructed and thoughtful response. I look forward to seeing what you have to say. |
AuthorAs a teacher of the English Language, I strive to find fun and innovative ways to make the subject interesting. My students should not have to endure the hours of mind-numbing memorization of terms, rules, and laws of grammar. I feel that it is far more useful to teach them how to use the information by putting it into everyday practice. Archives
